Black people in the South have always held up American democracy.
Southern Vote Collaborative Action Fund works to improve the quality of life of all Americans by uplifting opportunities for Black people across the South.
The South is where the country's future gets decided.
The South is the fastest-growing region in the United States, a mix of rural towns and growing cities. More than half of all Black people in the U.S. live here, and Latino, Asian American, and other communities are growing too.
This region has always been an incubator for social change. We believe it is where the nation will live up to its highest ideals of freedom and justice, and that the country's future is tied to the quality of life of Black people here.
A better life for Black people in the South advances the common good for everyone.
When we say Black people in the South, we mean all of us: descendants of the enslaved, Caribbean and African immigrants, and the wider diaspora who call the South home.
How we work
We build on the South's legacy of resilience by pushing for lasting change in four ways.
-
Raising awareness
We educate the public on the issues that hit Black people in the South hardest, from healthcare disparities and education inequality to criminal legal reform.
-
Policy advocacy
We push for changes in law and policy that strengthen the programs Southern families rely on.
-
Legislative advocacy
We take positions on legislation and ballot measures that shape life in Southern communities.
-
Building public will
We partner with people and organizations doing justice-centered work across the full range of issues that shape our lives, and help turn shared concern into collective action. At our core, we are committed to protecting our freedom, health, and well-being.
Collaboration is in our name.
Advocates and organizations across the South are leading the country's civil and human rights work. We work alongside them on campaigns, proposals, and events, and on the long project of changing what is possible for Black people in the South.
